Giving at First Presbyterian Church
On many Sundays at First Presbyterian Church, it is common for the presiding minister to make the point that our financial giving is simply a testimony that we are giving ourselves to God. Indeed, it is in response to the mercies of God that we “present our bodies as a living sacrifice” (Romans 12:1). While we may not present our bodies literally, we do present a portion of what is necessary to sustain our bodies to God as a sign that we are giving ourselves to him.
We also give our money to God in response to the grace of the Gospel. The Apostle Paul grounds our giving in just this way: “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9). In response to the rich grace of Jesus, we respond by giving our financial resources, as well as our time and talents. We do not do this to gain God’s favor; we already have that. Rather, we do this in response to the undeserved favor of God.
And so, at First Pres, hopefully you will never hear us motivate people to give by using guilt or fear. We try to ground our giving in our response to the generous grace of our God.
In order to assist our members in their giving, we offer electronic funds transfer. You will need to set up login information if you have not done so already. You can access the online giving page below:
