Missions

The First Presbyterian Church is a missions church.  We believe that just as Jesus, "the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and give his life as a ransom for many", we are to do the same.  Our service to Missions as a church should come in one of two forms.

First, we must continue to give our missionaries what they need, "to send them on their way in a manner worthy to God" (3 John 6).  Individuals on the mission field rely on us for many of their needs.  So by supporting these efforts, we do God's will: "it was for the sake of the name that they went out, receiving no help from the pagans.  We ought therefore to show hospitality to such men so that we may work together for the truth." (3 John 7 & 8)

Second, we can work "for the truth" in a person just like our Philippines teams have done or as our teams do in serving the Gulf Coast of Mississippi on a regular basis.  Whether it is a trip to British Columbia, to Peru, working on a Habitat House here in Hattiesburg, or serving our friends on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, we all have opportunities to fight "the good fight".
