Nursery Ministry
Nursery Ministries Vision Statement
The First Presbyterian Church Nursery Ministries Vision Statement
(taken from the Vision Statement of First Presbyterian Church,
Hattiesburg):
We are prayerfully committed to working for the salvation of our
covenant children, that every covenant child profess faith in Christ as
Lord and Savior and begin to grow towards maturity and usefulness in
Christ's service. The Nursery programs are an important part of our
ministry as well as outreach to unchurched parents in the community as
well as those seeking a new church home.
Guidelines for Parents
- All children (birth-3 years old) are checked in and out by a parent
or adult guardian. The same person should pick up the child.
- Parents of infants-toddlers should plan to bring a diaper
bag with one or two disposable diapers/pull-ups per service (pacifier,
bottle or sippy cups as needed), and a change of clothes. Each item
must be clearly marked with the child's name. We ask that parents
remain outside the doors when dropping off and picking up their child.
- There are special areas for mothers who nurse. Please ask at the Welcome Center (front desk).
- Snack and juice are offered to preschoolers (toddlers
–kinders) during their stay. Please advise staff if your child has a
food allergy or if you prefer for your child to have a snack brought
from home.
- If your child has an unexplained rash, runny nose, cough,
open sores, diarrhea, fever, contagious disease or illness, or if you
know that they just are not feeling well, they SHOULD NOT be admitted
to the preschool. Preschool teachers will NOT administer medicine.

Sunday Morning Check-in Procedures
How do I check in my child?
Guests
begin at our Welcome Center desk ("Visitor Check-In") where they fill
out a Visitor's Card (and Baby Schedule form, if applicable). Parents
will receive a pager. The child receives a sticker (to be placed on
their back) with an identification number and the child's name.
Upon
return to the classroom (within 10 minutes of the session's end), the
parent will return the pager to the front desk in order to receive the
preschooler.
Questions Parents Might Ask
- How will you contact me if my child becomes ill or injured?
Our
paging system will alert you with a vibration from your pager, so
please keep your pager on you or in your pocket (not in your purse,
please!)
- Who will be permitted in my child's classroom?
Parents
of the child and Children's Ministry Team members (consisting of paid
and volunteer teachers) will be in children's classrooms.
