First Presbyterian Church has a vibrant music ministry. Our adult choir’s main purpose is to assist in leading God’s people in hymns and songs during the Sunday morning worship service. They also provide moments of reflection for the congregation by singing anthems that are Christ-centered. The adult choir is led by Jesse Noote, who also serves as the choral director at Presbyterian Christian School.
We also have an excellent graded children's choir program, led by Kerrin Hightower. Children in this choir learn biblical truths as they sing songs rooted in God’s Holy Word. They also learn the enjoyment of music as they learn about Him in song.
The choirs are ably accompanied by Loleeta Rhett, organist and pianist. Loleeta also prepares preludes, postludes, reflections for communion, and other meaningful moments during times of corporate worship.
“The Spear" is an acoustic group that is sometimes called upon to lead music on Sunday evenings. Musical selection may include: familiar hymns, hymn tunes developed by Reformed University Ministries, psalms, and other spiritual songs (Colossians 3:16).
All of FPC ensembles exist as a sign of obedience to biblical mandates - “Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises” (Psalm 47:6). “Praise the LORD with harp: sing to Him with the psaltery and an instrument …” (Psalm 33:2). Commands to play and sing to our Creator God are both individual and corporate, a response required of all true believes. Therefore, vocal and instrumental praise to our God is an immense responsibility. From preparation to performance, all is done with the intent of giving God our very best musical offering. He is worthy!
